[ARCHIVED] Push-In Ceremony for New Rockledge Fire Engine

Public Safety Logo

On Saturday, June 17th at 9:00 a.m., the public is cordially invited to attend a "Push-in" Ceremony for the Rockledge Department of Public Safety - Fire Division's new fire engine! The ceremony will take place at Fire Station No. 36, 1600 S. Fiske Boulevard. This is a very special and time-honored tradition, which does not occur very frequently. The custom dates back to the era when fire pumpers were horse-driven and powered by hand. Following a fire, the horses would be separated from the pumper cart and both horse and pumper would be washed by the firefighters. The pumper would then be literally pushed into the station. In today’s times, a recreation of this event signifies placing a new engine into service. We hope your schedule permits you to attend!
